A Poodle is a breed of dog that is beloved for its intelligence, friendly nature, and non-shedding hair. Its curly coat comes in a variety of colors including white, black, silver, and apricot. This breed is extremely trainable and is often referred to as one of the most intelligent dog breeds. As a result, they are often seen performing in dog shows and make excellent service, therapy, and family companion dogs. Poodles come in three sizes, Standard, Miniature, and Toy, with the Standard size being the largest and the Toy, the smallest.
Poodles are considered a hypoallergenic breed due to their low shedding coat, but the truth is that all breeds of dogs shed some hair. Still, poodles have a unique coat texture and dense curls that resist matting and any type of debris. They don't need to be brushed as often as long-haired dogs, thus their shedding is kept to a minimum, making them an excellent choice for people with allergies. Here are some tips to help you get started: Make sure you're fully prepared for your Poodle's arrival by gathering all the necessary supplies ahead of time; take care in choosing a high-quality, nutritious food; research tips and tricks to housetrain your pup; establish yourself as the leader of the pack and set boundaries; exercise regularly to keep your pup happy and healthy; and stay consistent with your training methods.
Poodles have a wide range of average sizes, depending on their type. Standard Poodles, the largest of the three varieties, typically grow to around 15 inches in height and weigh roughly 40 to 70 pounds. Miniature Poodles, the smallest variety, usually reach heights of 10 to 15 inches with a weight of 12 to 18 pounds. Meanwhile, Toy Poodles usually reach heights of less than 10 inches and typically range in weight from four to six pounds.
The amount of time you should walk your Poodle each day is dependent on their age, size, and health considerations. Generally speaking, young poodles have more energy than more mature poodles and would require a longer walk. A good rule of thumb is to try and allocate 30 minutes a day for walking, although some days, they could benefit from a longer walk, depending on how active they are. That extra 10-20 minutes can be split up throughout the day in shorter walks. Also, consider their physical fitness level and overall health and adjust their walk length accordingly.
