Questions & Answers
Poodles are an incredibly unique breed of dog, making them an interesting choice to own. One of the things that makes them so unique is their extensive coat of hair. Depending on the type of poodle, their hair can come in a variety of colors, making them one of the most visually stunning breeds of dog. As far as behavior, poodles are known to be highly intelligent and are some of the most trainable breeds of dog. Furthermore, they are incredibly friendly, making them a great choice for families and senior citizens.
While Poodles are often considered to be a hypoallergenic breed, this is not entirely true. Even though they are a low-shedding breed, Poodles can still shed a small amount of fur. Poodles coats usually have some sort of wavy texture, adding to its non-shedding nature. However, there is a trade-off; in order to maintain their tight curls, Poodles need to be groomed regularly and trimmed by a professional.
Poodles are highly intelligent, active dogs that need a nutritious, high-quality diet to help them maintain a healthy weight and keep their energy levels up throughout the day. A great way to make sure your Poodle is getting a complete and balanced diet is to feed it an all-in-one dry or wet food specifically made for Poodles, as this will typically contain all the essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals they need.
To prepare your home for your new Poodle, you should begin by making sure that your home is puppy-safe. Make sure to move any dangerous objects to a secure location, such as a cabinet, and ensure that all outlets and cords are hidden and/or covered. Be sure to chew-proof your home by removing any cord or string-like items such as shoe laces and clothing drawstrings. It's also important to ensure that any fresh food, such as fruit or vegetables, are kept away from your Poodle's reach.
Poodles are a unique breed of dog with a variety of physical sizes. Standard Poodles are known as medium to large-sized dogs, while Miniature Poodles are typically considered on the smaller end of the spectrum. That said, Poodles are not considered to be among the biggest breeds of dogs, yet they remain larger than some of the smallest breeds like the Chihuahua.
There is no exact answer to how many minutes per day you should walk your Poodle. Rather, it depends largely on your particular Poodle's age, size, and health status. Generally, an average-sized, healthy adult Poodle should get around 30 minutes of exercise per day. This should be divided into two 15-minute sessions, such as a morning and evening stroll. If your Poodle is a small breed, then you should consider shorter 10-minute walks throughout the day, such as 3-5 times per day.
Generally, Poodles can interact very happily with children. These intelligent, sociable dogs respond well to training and, when properly socialized, will be affectionate and engaging with children. Since Poodles enjoy company, they tend to also have a good temparament when interacting with other family members-especially children. Poodles need plenty of exercise and playtime and engaging with children in games and activities can be a great way to keep them both physically and emotionally healthy.
Training a Poodle is not an overly difficult task as long as you have patience and an understanding of how best to teach your pup. Start by establishing yourself as the alpha or pack leader by demonstrating consistent obedience commands and positive reinforcement. For any new command, keep it simple and use treats or toys to motivate the dog to perform the desired action. Repetition is keypractice one command multiple times per day to ensure the dog is learning. As your pup starts to show signs of understanding, increase the difficulty of the commands a few days after your initial instruction.
